About Strafford Saddlery

Strafford Saddlery has been serving the horse community in Vermont and beyond for over 20 years. Originally established in the village of Strafford, Vermont by Cindy White, the business was purchased by Annie Penfield in 2004.

From the hilltop shop outside a small town in central Vermont, the store expanded first through a print catalog, starting in 2015, then with a move to a 4,000-foot historic building on Route 4 in Quechee, Vermont, beside the Quechee Gorge, in 2017.

The store offers a wide range of great products for recreational and competitive riders. With a focus on finding innovative products, we seek out exciting new solutions to meet our customers' needs. Strafford Saddlery was one of the first stores in the country to carry Bates and Wintec saddles, which continue to be best sellers.

With retail and online stores stocked with leading brands of clothing, tack, horse apparel and stable supplies and a staff of dedicated horse people, Strafford Saddlery is focused on serving the equestrian community with great products and great service. And Strafford Saddlery continues to invest in and strengthen the local equestrian community by supporting riders, shows and organizations in Vermont and across New England.

Annie Penfield

Annie Penfield

Managing Partner

Annie started riding at age 4 at her family farm in Massachusetts. Her first pony was Tradewind, a retired school horse who taught her so much! A few of Annie's proudest horse-related moments are completing a long-format event, foaling out her homebred and jumping clean around the Preliminary course at Groton House Farm. Annie loves writing; if she could have any career she wanted, she would be a writer. She also loves spending time with her dogs and cantering through her woods on horseback. Today, she owns 2 dogs, 2 horses, 1 mule and 1 mini donkey! Her favorite tack items are helmets and reins - safety first!

Lisa Morrison

Lisa Morrison

General Manager

Lisa got hooked on riding at summer camp when she was 7 years old. At 12, she got her first horse, a Palomino half-Arabian named Jiddah - known as the "Blonde Bombshell" - who taught her many things, like how to stay on. Lisa's proudest achievement was winning the (long-format) Bromont 3-Day Event! Today, Lisa competes mostly in eventing with her horse Emile (Entre les Etoiles). Lisa is the only Strafford Saddlery member who has gone bungee jumping! Her life moto is "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" and if she could have any career she wanted, Lisa would travel the world photographing people, places and horses.

Betsy Coburn

Sales Team Lead & Saddle Specialist

Betsy grew up on a farm and has been riding her whole life. Her first horse was Ginger, a failed lesson pony! Today, she has 2 horses, 2 dogs, 3 cats, 2 chinchillas and 1 rabbit making up her 4-legged crew. Cross Country is Betsy's favorite equestrian activity, so its no surprise that she loves to match all her tack and accessories - bring on the matching saddle pads, galloping boots and helmet covers! Betsy's favorite horse movie is "Harry & Snowman" and her big equestrian goal is to start Foxhunting.

Holly Weglarz

Holly Weglarz

Order Fulfillment & Receiving Specialist

Holly has been riding horses since age 8 and her favorite equestrian activity is showmanship. Her first horse was named Bently, a naughty QH who she would ride until he bucked her off! Holly's favorite place in the world is on a horse and she thinks the best job in the world would be to ride horses full time. Farmland landscape makes Holly happy and that's a good thing because she owns 3 horses, 1 goat and 1 pot-bellied pig! Holly's life motto is "make the best better" and her favorite smell is sweet feed.

Megann Watkins

Megann Watkins

Website Lead & Saddle Specialist

Megann began riding at age 6 and got her first horse, Willow, for her 14th birthday. Willow is still with Megann today and is considered the "Pony Extraordinaire!" Megann also has a dog named Tucker, well known around Strafford Saddlery as the "Shop Dog Extraordinaire." One of Megann's favorite equestrian activities is simply being in the barn, grooming, doing chores and enjoying the lovely smell of fresh bedding. A favorite memory is the first time she got her horse on the bit, all by herself! Megann is looking forward to spending more time with her animals this year and taking lessons with Willow again.

Laila Reimanis

Laila Reimanis

Sales Staff

Laila has been riding since she was 10 years old. Her first horse, Cotton, was a good boy and gave her lots of confidence in the saddle. Today, Laila has 2 dogs, 1 cat, 1 horse and many other horses whom she takes care of. If Laila could have any career, it would be a professional dressage rider but right now her favorite equestrian activity is riding Cross Country at Huntington Farm. She loves to deck herself (and her horse) out in as much teal as she can for that! Her favorite horse movie is "The Horse with the Flying Tail" and she loves chocolate peanut butter cup ice cream!
